ECA Report

An ECA report will state the equivalent of your foreign education in Canada.

When submitting an application for an ECA report, you must ensure that you submit the right documents and that your credentials are matching. You must read and follow the instructions carefully.

You can get an ECA report at any of the designated organizations listed below. If you already have an ECA report, ensure that you received your ECA report after the organization became designated, otherwise you may need to request for a reissue. An ECA report will be valid for 5 years from date of issue.

Comparative Education Service: University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies – designated April 17, 2013

International Credential Assessment Service of Canada – designated April 17, 2013
Estimated processing time is 25 weeks starting from the time all required documentation is received.


World Education Services – designated April 17, 2013
Estimated processing time is 35 business days starting from the time all required documentation is received.


International Qualifications Assessment Service – designated August 6, 2015
Estimated processing time is 30 weeks starting from the time all required documentation is received.


International Credential Evaluation Service – designated August 6, 2015
Estimated processing time is 20 weeks starting from the time all required documentation is received.


Assessment for specialists and family physicians

You must get your report from the Medical Council of Canada (designated April 17, 2013) if your primary occupation is:
specialist physician or general practitioner/family physician


Assessment for pharmacists

If you are a pharmacist who needs a license and you care for patients in a hospital pharmacy, long term care facility or community pharmacy, you must get your report from the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (designated January 6, 2014).

If you do not need a license for your job, you can get your assessment from any other designated ECA organization. This includes jobs where you may need a pharmacy degree but may not need to have a licence to practice, such as: government or the pharmaceutical industry.

The regulatory body in the province where you plan to live can let you know if you need a licence to practice.
